A Exploration of Multi-Page Grids and Bookbinding.

Using the entire text of Mike Monteiro’s Design is a Job, I designed and hand-bound a book with the goal to experience typesetting in great detail and “massaging” long text, as well as setting up and working with an editorial multi-page grid. I became familiar to the form and function of the book in all its glory. Additionally, I learned the enduring craft of bookbinding!

So I wrote you a book. It has a spine and by the time you’re done reading so will you.
-Mike Monteiro

The final book is a hardcover, 6x9 landscape, perfect-case-bound by hand, although, these mockups show the design as it would look on soft cover. The book block is printed on 80T superfine paper, while the illustrative chapter typography is printed on clear acetate to create an overlapping effect.
